Following the UK Government’s announcement on Monday to postpone “Step 4” of restrictions-easing until July 19th, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone Hop City – originally scheduled to begin July 9th – until August 6th.

We understand that this will come as a disappointment to many people – not least the teams who have been working so hard behind the scenes, organising the biggest and best Hop City yet together following 2020s fallow year.

Throughout the various stages of lockdown, we’ve seen Hop City as a bit of a light at the end of a dark tunnel – the familiar (but by now, all-too-distant) surroundings and trappings of a beer festival signifying things are back to normal.

The welfare of all staff, volunteers, and customers remains a priority to us, and we’re happy and proud to comply to the safety restrictions for as long as necessary at all our venues. However, these restrictions would seriously compromise the experience of a beer festival, and we’ve all waited too long and poured too much anticipation into Hop City for it to fall short of anybody’s expectations.

The new sessions will take place on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th August, we don’t expect the brewery line-up to be affected by the date changes, and all tickets sold for the initial festival will be valid for the rescheduled dates. If for any reason you’re unable to attend the rescheduled dates then full refunds will be available. Please send any refund requests to hopcity@northernmonk.com with the subject heading ‘REFUND’. All ticket-holders will receive an email confirmation of this to the address used when ordering.

We appreciate that a lot of ticket holders will have booked travel and accommodation for the festival, and we are working on an alternative event for the original weekend.  We’ll keep everybody updated on this.

We’re looking forward to, finally, raising a taster glass of something super hazy with you in a few short weeks!



  • Will my ticket still be valid for the same session on the new dates?

Absolutely. E.g Your Friday Afternoon ticket from July 9th will be valid for the Friday Afternoon Session on August 6th.

  • Can I get a full refund?

Yes. You’ll just need to forward your booking reference to hopcity@northernmonk.com with ‘REFUND’ as the subject line.

  • I can’t change my train / hotel booking. What can I do?

The decision to postpone is not one we’ve taken lightly, but the reality of the situation is Hop City 2021 cannot go ahead on the original dates as planned. Significant changes to the operation of the festival would be needed, which unfortunately would bring the festival below the standards we expect. We are working on alternative events for the original Hop City weekend to offer to people who are unable to visit us on the new dates.

  • Will there be any change to the Brewery line up?

We’re currently speaking to all attending Breweries, but our expectation is that everyone will still be attending. There will be an announcement soon on the final Brewery line up.

  • Will there be any changes to festival?

Aside from the date, there will be no significant changes to Hop City 2021.

  • I purchased a resale ticket from someone else, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, we can only process a refund to those who purchased tickets from the official Hop City 2021 ticket site.
